Guidelines for the tourist visiting Indonesia

Location. It is located on the islands of the Malay Archipelago and the western part of the island of New Guinea. It is washed by the waters of the Pacific and Indian Oceans.  It is the largest island-country in the world. A significant part of the island belongs to the Sunda, which in turn are divided into the Greater Sunda and Nusa Tenggara. The country shares land borders with Malaysia (on the island of Borneo), Papua New Guinea (on the island of New Guinea) and East Timor (Timor on the island).

Climate. The climate in Indonesia is equatorial tropical. There are two seasons: dry season- from April to October, and wet season - from November to March. During the wet season, the average number of rains is 10 per month, with half of them dropping at night. The average temperature is 30 degrees; the temperature of the water is 25-29 degrees, which allows tourists to swim all year round.  

Currency. The currency is Indonesian Rupiah.  In the circulation there are banknotes of 100, 500, 1000, 5000, 10 000, 20 000 and 50 000 coins and 25 and 50 rupees. 1 USD is equal to 9932 Indonesian rupiah. It is recommended to exchange currency in banks using "good" bills, as due to their quality, the rate can be changed. At the airport, hotels, and shopping malls and in the city there are currency exchange offices. Credit cards are accepted only in large supermarkets and restaurants. Traveler's checks in Indonesia will be practically useless.

Documents required for visa:

- Application form filled out correctly;

- One colored passport size photograph (including children);  

- A valid passport with a valid visa issued by Office of Visas and Registration (valid for 6 months after the trip);

- Valid and confirmed round-trip air tickets;

- For children under 18 years old – notarized exit permit from their parents;

 

Time required to issue visa:: 4 working days

The cost of a visa is 45 US $ (paid by tourists at the Embassy).

Customs.

Free import (for every adult):

Tobacco products: 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 100 grammes of tobacco and 1 litre of liquor. It  is prohibited to import television sets, radios, narcotics, weapons, pornographic materials, publications in the Chinese language and Chinese medicines. The export of rare plants and animals, antiques, products without a certificate (wood carving) is banned. Import and export of foreign currency is unlimited, but the import and export of the Indonesian rupiah cannot exceed 50 thousand.

Precautionary measures:

Precautionary measures at the airport: watch your luggage; do not leave it unattended even for a short time. Do not exchange large amount of money at the airport as along the road you will have need for them.

Precautions and recommendations for staying at the hotel: Keep your money, documents and valuables in the hotel safe. If the room has a mini bar, all the drinks taken from him during your stay must be paid on the day of departure at the reception of the hotel. 

Precautions on excursions: before each tour, check availability of tickets for this tour. Do not take a large amount of cash; do not be late to pick up the bus at the beginning of the tour. During stops along the tour program arrive to the designated place in time. The driver is not responsible for the money and valuables left in the tour bus. At the end of the tour do not forget your belongings in the bus. 

Precautions on the street: make a copy of your personal documents and do not carry the originals with you if possible. Do not tell strangers the name of the hotel you are staying, and also your room number. In case of loss or theft of credit cards, traveler's checks, cancel them immediately and call your bank in order to do this. On the street, avoid street demonstrations and other cases of large crowds. When traveling by public transport prepare the fare in advance. Do not unnecessarily carry large sums of money, and do not carry money in a handbag under any circumstances. If you go for a walk with the family, arrange in advance where you will meet if someone gets lost.
